Creator Interview: Anpostteller

Posted by Burgerman on Nov 12, 2009 in General |

First of all, sorry about the lack of podcast everyone! For those of you who weren’t at the live podcast and haven’t heard it yet, it’s still on its way. This has been an extremely busy few weeks for me, and I just haven’t been able to edit it.

Anyways, while you’re waiting for Episode 9, enjoy an interesting and funny creator interview with anpostteller! (PSN: anpostteller).

Anpostteller made his name with the two stunning levels “Swinging Silhouette” and “Post Apocalyptic”. If you’ve never played them, you’re missing out on two of the best levels around! They’re especially impressive on the graphical front.

How did you come to be a lbp creator? What is it about your background that greatly enhances your lbp creativity?

I couldnt wait to make a level from the moment the game was first announced, and i even had a few levels fully planned out the week before it was released, all of which were complete [butterscotch] ups, lol
When i eventually got the hang of it i made post apocalyptic.

Ive always loved art and anything to do with it, its about the only thing that im good at

What’s your favourite movie?

Children of men, the most underappreciated film of all time, not many people have seen it which makes me sad
tis a horse n’ cart of a film!

Did you dress up as a leprechaun for halloween?

No, i was a fairy, were you dressed up as a curler?

What inspires your levels? (i.e. theme, mechanics etc)

Anything really, movies, books, games, other lbp levels…
Post apoc was inspired by killzone 2, the road (excellent book, go read it ) and future warzone by johnee
Swinging silhouette was inspired by loco roco and patapon on psp, and all of the silhouetted levels in lbp

How many hours would you say you invest in creating a level?

Not a clue, lets just say alot, lol, it takes a few months of doing little bits here and there

What motivates you to put so much effort into your levels?

Me at first, im a perfectionist, if it was possible for me to do it, it had to be done, thats why i threw away all those levels, i didnt think they were good enough. Then when i got all the feedback from the community and all the kind messages, i wanted to make something that all these nice people would enjoy.

What is the creation process like? (i.e. do you sketch out your level ahead of time, create as you go)

I sketched out one of the levels i gave up on, but that didnt go well, what looked good on paper turned out to be a steaming pile in the game, i just create as i go, i made post apoc backwards.

In your opinion what gadget/puzzle/scenery/plot. (whatever contribution) are you most proud of? What level is it in?

Id say the explosions in post apoc, i love it when people make custom effects, ive seen alot of really cool, unique explosions in the game and wanted to make my own, mine may not be as good as others but im still really happy with them

[Editor's note: Geez, mister humble! anpostteller's explosions are the best I've ever seen. You can see them in all their glory in his "Post Apocalyptic" level.]

Who are some of your favorite creators?

incinerator22 - Best vehicles imo
poms – The miricle of life (holy [butterscotch] that was amazing)
ladylyn1 - He’s so nice  Also an excellent creator
regular (not sure if thats the right name) – Pencil world levels are incredible
RiCKy-BoBBy91 - Id say he is my favourite, if you saw what he is working on now you’d [butterscotch] your pants

And all the irish creators, they’re a fine bunch of lads!

What advice would you give to new lbp creators?

If you [butterscotch] up, dont give up, the creation tools can be quite daunting, and it may be hard at first, but give it some time and you will get used to it, you should see some of the [butterscotch] that i made when i was starting out lol

If you could have one day to talk to a person 1 on 1, who would it be?

Is physical contact allowed? Because id love to kick the [butterscotch] out of the person that came up with H4H

What feature do you want to see that hasn’t been announced?

There are alot of things id love to see, but ill stick with the stuff that could actually happen, some new sound effects and meterials, id love some organic materials, you can make any shape you want like the other materials, but once its in the level the physics take over, it giggles nd stuff.

With the very tragic recent news that your ps3 kicked the bucket, do you plan to buy a new ps3 and continue with LBP?

Well, a friend of mine is gonna have a go at fixing it, but if he makes a [butterscotch] of it (which is highly likely lol) id say ill get a ps3 slim, couldnt live without my ps3

What game are you looking forward to playing most?

God of war 3, gonna be epic

Is there anyone else you want to say? Anything to the fans of LBP that will be reading this? To MediaMolecule?

That mdaj guy has nice pecs
